Our Mission

At Share the Light, we support students through focused, structured academic tutoring by matching them with tutors who have relevant experience in their subject areas, within a community-supported platform.

Our Values

The principles that guide everything we do

Clarity

We focus on subject-based tutoring with clear goals and expectations. Sessions are structured, academic, and focused on learning outcomes.

Safety

We maintain defined boundaries, clear guidelines, and platform-based communication. Student well-being and appropriate conduct are non-negotiable.

Respect

We create a learning environment that is appropriate, inclusive, and student-focused. All interactions remain professional and supportive of academic growth.

Responsibility

Tutors are trained, guided, and held to consistent standards. We actively monitor quality and address issues when expectations aren't met.

Our Story

How Share the Light came to be

Share the Light is a registered incorporation in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. What began as a small group of determined middle school students recognizing educational disparities within their local refugee community grew into a broader mission to help bridge educational gaps through community-driven support.

Over time, Share the Light expanded into seven states β€” Mississippi, Connecticut, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, and Indiana β€” with dedicated ambassadors in each state helping coordinate free online tutoring sessions. Through this network, students received academic tutoring, ACT/SAT preparation, and guidance rooted in consistency and care, all delivered with flexible session formats.

In 2022, Share the Light was honored with the WLKY Bell Award, recognizing initiatives with significant impact on their local communities. This recognition, along with local news coverage, helped further expand the organization's reach and strengthen its mission of supporting students through accessible, structured academic support.
